About the artist

Artist’s Statement

Atlanta artist, Steven Winn, has been drawing and painting for as long as he can remember.   Self-taught as an artist, his formal education is in law.  And, while painting has sometimes been side-barred, it has never been abandoned.   Steven continues to work in the legal arena, but painting has been his passionate focus for nearly thirty years.  In that time, he has exhibited his work in numerous venues in Atlanta, Nashville, New York, and Memphis.  He was the cover artist for Memphis’ DownTowner Magazine’s 10th Anniversary Edition in 2005, and has been featured in articles in The Tennessean and the Nashville Banner.  In addition to commissions for private owners, his work also is included in several corporate collections.

His paintings are Dreamscapes of Middle America.  The images are taken from memories or musings, all painted in a style akin to several American artists of the mid-Twentieth Century, such as Grant Wood, Thomas Hart Benton, or Charles Burchfield.  By twisting perspective and lines, the paintings take on a dreamlike or storybook quality, inviting viewers to engage in the action or movement of the scene and to complete the story for themselves.
